Object Permanence Task

Elizabeth Spelke proposed that children are born with knowledge of fundamental physical properties for making sense of everyday events.

Children are born with the knowledge of:

         Ø continuity

         Ø solidity

Her experiments have shown that children at such young ages show a comprehension of properties for objects.  She has also shown that infants younger than four months can understand that objects continue to exist even when they move through one another.

For example: a large object behind a screen, the object towers over it.

This test proves that within the first few months of life there are genetic contributions to intelligence.
