Intelligence - Nature vs. Nurture
| Home | Test Your IQ | References | Nature | Nurture

Genetics which is referred to the DNA differences individuals inherit from generation to generation. These genes that we inherit derive from Assortive Mating or Maternal IQ which is the mating of individuals that are phenotypically similar (phenotypic characteristics that are a product of both genotype and environment).

Assortive Mating must be taken into consideration because sexual reproduction creates new combinations of genes from our parents which increase genetic variance generation after generation which may contribute to high heritability of intelligence. Therefore this tells us that our genes changes over time.

Our genes determine: the quality of our intelligence, our ability to integrate and process information. The level of our intelligence determines how well we cope with changes in our environment.

If many of our genes determine a behavior, then there is always the possibility that a child from a very disadvantaged background may have a combination of genes enabling him or her to achieve far beyond either of the parents. On the other hand, highly intelligent parents are no guarantee genetically that their children will be the same.
